WHAT TO PREPARE

  • A dramatic monologue (Tennessee Williams preferred, but not required).

  • If submitting for Stanley, Stella, or Mitch, please prepare a second contrasting monologue demonstrating range.

  • If you play an instrument at a high level, include a short clip showcasing your skills.

AVAILABLE ROLES

Stanley Kowalski – A former soldier and working-class man with an explosive temperament. Stanley is physically imposing, brash, and charismatic, with an animalistic energy that both attracts and intimidates. His presence dominates the space, and his relationship with Stella is passionate but volatile. He resents pretension and feels threatened by Blanche’s arrival. Requires a strong physical presence and emotional depth.

Stella Kowalski – Blanche’s younger sister and Stanley’s wife. Stella is warm and nurturing but deeply torn between loyalty to her sister and devotion to her husband. She has adapted to life in the working-class world of New Orleans, embracing its intensity and passion while still carrying remnants of her Southern aristocratic upbringing. She is both tender and strong, capable of deep love but also internal conflict.

Harold "Mitch" Mitchell – Stanley’s friend and poker buddy. More sensitive and reserved than the other men, Mitch has a quiet strength and a genuine desire for love and companionship. He lives with his ailing mother and initially treats Blanche with kindness, but his disillusionment leads to a heartbreaking transformation. Requires an actor who can portray both gentleness and emotional complexity.

Eunice Hubbell – Stella’s upstairs neighbour and the wife of Steve. Eunice is tough, outspoken, and deeply practical. She has weathered life’s hardships and understands the complexities of love and survival. Though blunt, she cares for Stella and serves as a voice of reality in the play.

Steve Hubbell – Eunice’s husband. A working-class man with a rough exterior, Steve enjoys drinking, gambling, and arguing with Eunice. His marriage mirrors Stella and Stanley’s, though with an added layer of humour that offsets its occasional brutality.

Pablo Gonzales – One of Stanley’s poker buddies. A man of few words but a strong presence. Pablo represents the diversity of New Orleans and provides an additional perspective in Stanley’s group.

A Young Collector – An innocent and polite young man who briefly encounters Blanche, representing youthful temptation and lost innocence.

Flower Seller – A mysterious figure selling flowers for the dead, symbolizing fate and death’s looming presence in Blanche’s life.

The Doctor –  The doctor is calm, professional, and unexpectedly gentle in Blanche’s final scene.

The Matron – The matron is authoritative and firm, representing the harsh reality of institutionalization.
